Reports of Meta scaling its own cloud infrastructure

Question

Sentiment reset or thesis break

THESIS: Nebius dropped 15% today on reports that Meta is expanding its own in-house cloud infrastructure. The read across the "neocloud" AI infra names, $NBIS, $CRWV, $IREN, was immediate and uniform. But Nebius's existing multi-billion-dollar contracted commitments with Meta don't change because Meta is also building elsewhere. Hybrid infrastructure strategy is the norm at hyperscaler scale, not a signal that outside providers get cut.

What Happened

Reports surfaced that Meta is ramping up its own cloud buildout. Investors read this as a threat to the neocloud trade broadly, since these names are priced on the assumption that hyperscalers will keep outsourcing AI infrastructure capacity. The selling was fast and heavy across the group.

The Gap Between the Headline and the Contract

Nebius has multi-billion-dollar deals with Meta already locked in. Signed commitments don't unwind because a customer is also investing in internal capacity. Every major hyperscaler runs hybrid, some in-house, some outsourced, simultaneously. That's existing behavior, not new risk.

The Steelman for the Sellers

Neocloud valuations ran hard into this selloff. If Meta's move signals a multi-year shift toward deeper insourcing, contract renewal risk becomes a real conversation in 2027 and beyond. That's a legitimate long-horizon watch item. It is not, on its own, a reason today's contracted revenue is at risk.

Price Action

Heavy volume down, heavy volume back up. Panic sellers and dip buyers are working through this in real time. $230 is the level to watch. Hold above it with volume stabilizing, this reads as a sentiment reset. Lose it, $210 is next.

Hawkmont View

This looks like a valuation reset wearing a competition headline, not a change to the underlying business. We're not calling a bottom. We're calling out the gap between what moved (sentiment, multiple) and what didn't (contracted revenue).

We're tracking $NBIS, $CRWV, and $IREN through this and will publish the full sector comparison for subscribers.
